The Salisbury Plain south of London is flat, only a few mildly rolling mounds - not even hills - to break up the flatness of the landscape. Then, suddenly, there is Stonehenge. I've been to Stonehenge three times. Every time I am more impressed, more moved by this antiquity, an oddity older than any other structure on Earth. On this particular early autumn day, someone was burning leaves a few miles away...
